Like many of us in 2020, I began to appreciate the small pockets of nature on my doorstep. Daily walks were a calming and inspiring distraction from the pressures of work with time to notice the beauty of my local green spaces. It was then that I began to shift my practice towards Landscape, bringing together my passion for art and nature.
Art has always been a huge part of my life, completing a BA hons in textile design and going on to become Head of Art at secondary school where I taught for 28 years until retirement in 2023. Despite training as a designer, painting has always been my true calling so having the time to explore my own practice is simply wonderful!
When we stop to gaze at a Landscape our senses drink in the beautiful colours, textures, sounds and smells around us; putting aside the stresses of every day life to be in the moment. Through the use of light, colour and texture I endeavour to capture this moment in my paintings.
I work predominantly in oil which allows me to build up thick and thin layers, soft and hard edges, smooth or textural marks. The act of applying this lovely creamy medium to canvas is a very therapeutic experience.
I hope you enjoy following my creative journey.
